More than 300 came to Oton Adventist Center, San Antonio, Oton as the New Life and Health Expo begins on May 9 at 6:30 in the evening. Pastor Violeto F. Bocala, SSD's former President, comes as the main speaker for the New Life Seminar, Pastor Charles L. Nogra, CPUC's Health Director, as the healthy lifestyle expo speaker with Pastor Calev B. Maquirang, WVC Health Director.
A well-traveled Filipino International Evangelist, Pastor Bocala participated in many conventions and religious councils in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He traveled in the Holy Land and conducted evangelistic campaigns in Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and many cities here in the Philippines. He served the Seventh-day Adventist work until his retirement, and being the Southern Asia Pacific Division (SSD) President as his last leadership position. Though retired, yet he still actively involves himself in the church work, and this evangelistic campaign here in Oton becomes one of the proofs of it.
The Bible topic at the opening night, "The Highway To Heaven", Pastor Bocala emphasized, became real through Jesus. He further explained that inspite of our being separated from God because of sin, Jesus, because of His salvific work on calvary, can bring us back to God--and this becomes possible because God loves us.
Chosen as the venue for the nightly meeting, Oton Adventist Center, San Antonio, Oton, had been one of the many projects facilitated by WVC's former President, Pastor Levi Estores, who recently migrated to the US for a pastoral work there. This church transcended from its humble appearance to now something inspiring, but not fancy. Because of its size now, it can contain more people than before; thus, the possibility of bringing the message to more people now than it used to years back.
Within the FADASI (Federation of Adventist Association in Souther Iloilo)-I District, San Antonio, Oton comes as one of the many places under the leadership of Pastor Freddie Gandullas. Pastor Gandullas served the district for quite a number of years now. And this evangelistic campaign became possibile through the responsible preparations put forth by him with the support of West Visayan Conference.
